Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
Five drums filled with crude bombs were recovered on Wednesday from the Baamantola Ghumtala area under the Golapganj police outpost in Malda district’s Vaishnavnagar Assembly constituency. The recovery triggered panic in the area, prompting immediate deployment of police forces from Kaliachak police station. The area was cordoned off, and a search operation was conducted.
This is the third instance of bomb recovery in the Vaishnavnagar constituency in the past seven days. Earlier recoveries were reported from two other locations within the same jurisdiction. Officials said the number of explosives seized this time is significantly higher, creating security concerns in the region. Police confirmed that the explosives were stored in large drums.
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the bomb disposal squad have been informed and are expected to examine the seized items. A formal investigation has been initiated by Kaliachak police to trace the source and intended use of the explosives. No arrests have been reported so far.
